Camera roll…Action!

Because of my dad, I love watching movies. I love being emerge from real life to any kind of world that a movie offered. It’s just like reading book without needing to imagine how the main character looks like and how the ambiances or environment feels like. I even love a deep conversation about movies based on deeper analytic of it. Though sometimes I just let myself dragged along the beautiful moving pictures and engaging character without thinking its cinematography, editing, design, or screenplay.

But, to be honest, and to my surprise as well, when it comes to today’s topic, I have no idea. It appears that I don’t have favorite movies! I have some movies that I really like, but I never made it as my fav. I just think that each of those movies has its own place in my heart and my mind. But anyway, I’d like to share you which kind of movies I enjoy the most.

First of all, as a Disney Freak, I don’t know how or why, all of Disney animated film. Both Disney and Pixar will easily please me. My own appraisement will be biased. My very first cartoon is the recording of Mickey Mouse’s fantasia. I grew up with Toy Story, Bug’s life, Lion King, Pocahontas and Mulan. Until now, there are only a few of Disney’s animated film that didn’t give me chills or without making my eyes (a bit) watery.

I’m that type of person, at the beginning of the year, who makes a to-watch-list. Especially when Academy and Golden Globe already reveal their nomination. I’ll watch every movies that manage to be nominated on best pictures. Also the movies whose best director, actor, actress, editing, score and screenplay nominated. I’ll make my own judgement. Sometimes even make a prediction (which turns out always wrong. HAHA!). I usually makes 2 kind of prediction, the one that I think Academy will choose and the one that I root for. Well, you know this kind of movies. Dunkirk for me still feels like an art installation. I felt like I’m falling in love my self watching Call Me by Your Name. I enjoy every color in La La Land. And the King’s Speech never left my heart ever since. Not to mention some movies such as Schindler’s List, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, and Rain Man. The beauty of their cinematography, strong character with high class performance from its actors, and the screenplay and score that makes me more merging into this alternative life.

There are also some movies that I enjoy so much without thinking about the technic behind. Movies like Harry Potter & Fantastic Beast series, Hunger Games, Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some sitcom or light drama movies as well, such as Catch Me If You Can, Sweet Home Alabama, the Interns, Wicker Park, Serendipity, Jerry Maguire, Sleepless in Seattle, or You’ve Got Mail. Two beautiful drama movies that I think is so underrated is Infinitely Polar Bear (Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana) and 5 to 7 (Anton Yelchin and  Bérénice Marlohe). Next time I’ll write about these two movies. Oh, you know what, I Enjoy some horror movies. Just when in needs of releasing stress by screaming out loud. Funny things about me watching horror movies? I laugh out loud instead when the ghosts appear 😀

Any suggestion perhaps, what movies I should put on this “favorite list” ?

Sweet Home Alabama

Gwe bukannya kangen sama rumah gwe di Alabama (punya aja kagak!), tapi gwe mau cerita2 hal lucu pas gwe nonton film berjudul sama ini.

Gwe inget pernah ngeliat catatan kecil di buku diary jaman SD-SMP (lupa tepatnya), gwe nulis gini :

” suka banget deh sama Josh Lucas yang maen di Sweet Home Alabama, filmnya kereeenn”

Dari pertama gwe baca tulisan itu lagi, yang ada dalam pikiran gwe, “hmm..yang mana ya Josh Lucas ini??filmnya juga tentang apa yaa??”. Nah lo..gwe pernah suka banget sama sesuatu, tapi gwe lupa total apa yang gwe suka dan kenapa gwe suka sama sesuatu itu. hahaha.

sampe suatu saat (baru2 aja sebenernya), pas Nad ngajakin gwe ke Chelsea DVD buat hunting DVD, mata gwe menangkap suatu DVD yang tergeletak berjudul “Sweet Home Alabama”. Langsung segera gwe ambil doooong…pulang kosan gwe langsung tonton tu film. Dan ini lah yang terjadi selama gwe ntn film tersebut :

  1. Kaget setengah mati karena ternyata yang maen adalah Reese Witherspoon, dan salah satu pemain pendukungnya adalah Patrick Dempsey! gile aja gwe ko bisa2nya gk suka sama Patrick Dempsey sejak pertama kali gwe ntn ni film (yang ntah kapan, pastinya antara SD-SMP according to my diary).
  2. Lupa total sama film yang pernah gwe daulat sebagai film yang “kereeeenn” dan “gwe suka banget” ini. Sama sekali gk inget ceritanya gmana, bahkan tentang apa
  3. Shock ngeliat sang Josh Lucas yang “gwe suka banget” . Karena justru gwe ngrasa gwe baru pertama kali ngeliat aktor satu ini. Sama sekali lupaaa kenapa gwe bisa suka sama mas ini.
  4. Sampe perempatan film, gwe masih melototin Patrick Dempsey (yang gantengnya keterlaluan), dan masih bingung kenapa gwe suka sama Josh Lucas. Tapi perlahan-lahan gwe mulai tertarik sama mas Josh ini.
  5. Sampe perempatan film juga gwe masih mencoba mengingat-ingat apa bener gwe pernah nonton ni film
  6. Sampe pertengahan film, gwe masih melototin Patrick Dempsey, mulai meratiin Josh Lucas, dan mulai hanyut dalam cerita. Gwe dah gak peduli apa gwe pernah nonton ni film apa gak
  7. Sampe di akhir cerita, gwe bener2 suka banget sama cerita dari Sweet Home Alabama, dan gwe melting ngeliatin Josh Lucas.

Jadi…gwe suka banget nih ceritanya sama Sweet Home Alabama beserta Josh Lucasnya. Tapi tetep, gwe gak inget kapan, dimana dan apakah gwe bener2 udah pernah nonton film ini sebelumnya. Ahahaha!

Nah, Sweet Home Alabama sendiri punya cerita yang sederhana, dan bahkan sangat masuk akal terjadi di kehidupan sehari-hari. Menceritakan tentang seorang cewek bernama Melanie (Reese Witherspoon) yang pulang ke kampung halamannya untuk ngurus perceraiannya sama Jake (Josh Lucas). Melanie ini udah sukses di New York sebagai designer dan mau nikah sama tunangannya Andrew (patrick Dempsey) yang merupakan anak dari Major of New York. Dengan kehidupan yang sudah berubah, Melanie banyak menipu teman2nya di new york, bahkan tanpa sadar sikapnya pun berubah terhadap teman2 dan keluarganya di Alabama.  Film ini mnceritakan gmana Melanie kembali berbaur bersama keluarga dan teman2nya di Alabama yang udah lama dia tinggalin.  Tentu saja dengan bumbu cinta segitiga antara Jake-Melanie-Andrew. Simple, Ringan, sarat komedi, tapi ceritanya kuat.

Gak banyak yang istimewa dari film ini, selain pemain2nya yang memainkan peran dengan kuat. Gak perlu efek heboh2 juga tentunya untuk buat film sesederhana ini. Hanya butuh script yang kuat dan jelas. Dan itulah yang ditawarkan oleh film ini. Love it!!

Mungkin kalo lagi pengen ntn2 film lama, boleh dicoba ntn film satu ini….ada Patrick Dempsey loooh!!ahahaha!!
