A Love Letter

This should be the 4th day of 7 days writing challenges. But, I need to put some break after the 3rd day as I have another anxiety attack. Well, I’m better now, so, here it is! As like the posts before, I took this challenge as my way to learn how to write and enriched the characters in a book I currently write. Today’s topic is : A love letter from a fictional characters to another fictional character. It’s a letter from “Kevin” to “Kai”.

Dear Kai,

Call me an old fashioned, but I love handwriting. So, here I am, writing you a letter.

To be honest, it's been a while to not writing a letter to someone. But, after our brief first meeting yesterday, I felt the urge to write a letter again. To you, definitely.

So, Kai Xavier, right? Congrats on the winning! It's just a small queer tennis tournament, I know. But it made me meeting you and owing you a dinner, which...I can't wait for!๐Ÿ™‚

I know I should've just called you, or texted you. But I'd like to tell you something before we have the dinner. Something I think that has to be written.

I believe I have fallen for you, Kai Xavier.
I think I'm going to like you....a lot.
You have this kind of smile that brought lights. I can tell you're such a cocky guy, but you definitely are deserved to be, as I can also tell you're such a smart guy to talk with. For hours.
At least, it would be such a gift to have you as a friend.

I know it sounds creepy. Especially reading this from the guy who just met you in less than 24 hours. But, well, within these 24 hours, we've talked for total 53 minutes, exchanged numbers, texted hi to each other...I've cheered for you from the top of my lung, called you about 10 minutes for some silly reasons, and dropped this letter to the pretty gallery's manager who looked at me sharply and was, I believe, torn into two whether she should really give you my letter or not. Can't blame her though, I was so nervous you were going to suddenly appear and it would be embarrassing for sure. So yeah, a lot of things happened within these 24 hours. Funny how time flies, they said? I think they never felt such thing as "fall for someone in the first sight".

Anyway, again, I know you probably feel not comfortable with all this. Like I said, I just need to tell you about this feeling. Written.
If you feel it's inappropriate, I'll totally understand. Feel free to throw away this letter and block my number. Or.....probably just give me a chance to buy me a dinner that I owe you....

Call me?

Cheers,
Your loudest cheerleader,
Kevin Vรกsquez (Kev)

(Book Review) Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith

Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The best dynamic from our fav duo!

The case itself really was intriguing. I like the idea to solve a cold dead long forgotten cased. With this case we were shown how passionate, determined, dedicated and committed Cormoran and Robin were.

I also love the character development. Even some small characters like Pat, the new agency’s secretary, got a deep sense of it. Also some occurring characters like Shanker, Barkley (oh, I looove Barkley so much!), Lucy, Charlotte, Matthew (ewh), also Nick and Ilsa were dug deeper here. But the good thing is, we don’t get dragged too long. We can easily learn more about these characters by reading their conversation.

Also, if you’re a shipper for Cormoran and Robin’s relationship, this book feels like a drop of water we waited for so long. It’s clearly see how they developed their feelings toward each other. Their fight after the dinner at Max’s (Robin’s new landlord) place really open a lot of possibility to their relationship. Which I can’t wait to know more about it!

Talking about dragging, with 900+ pages, somehow I don’t feel bored reading this. Sometimes there are some parts that they all focused on other cases, but still, it’s engaging somehow. I think it’s because the dynamic from Cormoran and Robin is getting more and more interesting. I keep giggling reading them, like reading a teen lit. Some experiences that you seldom got from a detective stories, right?

A Journal Entry

Today is the 3rd day of 7 days writing challenge. As like 2 days before, I took this challenge as my way to learn how to write and enriched the characters in a book I currently write. Today’s topic is : A Journal Entry by a young person (10-17 years old) about missing something or someone.

April 17th, 2014

Hi,

I'm Hugo, 11 years old.
Mr. Floyd told me to start writing a journal 1 page per day because Papa and Mum separated.
I don't know what to write actually.
Mr. Floyd told me if I miss something or someone I can write it down.

Well, I miss when Mum still cook a lot.
I miss her beef stew.
I miss it when Papa was still here and looked happy eating Mum's beef stew.
I miss it when I don't have to look after Andrew all the time.
I miss it when everything was still normal.

Summer Break

I wrote this short story as part of the 7 days writing challenge. The challenge for the 2nd day is “writing a short story about someone’s going on a trip”. Same like the first day, I took this challenge as my way to learn how to write and enriched the characters in a book I currently write. Hope you can enjoy it! Oh, any comments, insights and inputs will be very well welcomed ๐Ÿ™‚

Hugo laid wide awake that night. He kept changing position tried to look for a comfortable one, shut his eyes off, and only ended up let his mind wandering around to any random things happened in his life. Sometimes he let out a grunt in a hope to sweep away a bad memory such us that time when he should raise his hand when his drama teacher sought for a volunteer to demonstrated how people walked at the desert, so he could have another chance to get his teacher attention to cast him for the next fall school play. Or, about his latest failure on his attempt to talk to Gina, a girl from his English class who was always in his mind these past months, when he only managed to let out a foolish grin after calling her name as all of her friends looked at him with disgust. Or, the anxiety caused by his text to Gina that seemed like successfully being ignored since last night he sent her.

With a sigh, he looked at his phone and saw it was 5.15 AM already. He only slept for 2 hours when he suddenly woke up at 2 and hadnโ€™t slept since then. The sticky summer air didnโ€™t help to let him to get back to sleep as well. He decided to be fully awake, open his window to let some breezes in, and continued packing his things for summer break he would spend with his mom and her new fiancรฉe.

Ever since his parents divorced, Hugo and his brother Andrew had lived in many houses. The first 2 years, they lived with their mother whose jobs at the UN that made them moved from a city to another. After their father finally won the custody, they could finally settle down in a small city where he owned a small yet respectable gallery. He was so happy when he finally could live with his father because it seemed like he really needed companions in his life after the divorce. During the divorce and custody process, Hugo could see how devastated his father was. He could finally see him smiling a lot like he used to after Hugo and Andrew moved in. This thing that he noticed made it always difficult to leave his father alone every summer break, when he usually spent with his mother in any country where she stationed in that particular year.

Hugo stared blankly to his belongings. Most of his clothes were still messy in his suitcase as he just threw them in all last night. If his father saw this, he would definitely scold him and asked him to repack the suitcase. Still not in the mood to tidy his clothes, he decided to pick which books and homework he should bring and whether he should bring along his ukulele or not. When he was in the middle of choosing his socks, he heard a soft knock on his bedroom door.

โ€œHugo? Youโ€™re awake, arenโ€™t you? Want me to help you to pack?โ€ Hugo heard Kaiโ€™s whisper outside.

Kai was his father new gallery assistant who had been living with them for couple of months. His father told his sons that Kai needed to live in his house about 6 months until he sorted things off as he just recently moved into the city. But, ever since Kai moved in, Hugo and his brother always wished that Kai could just stay with them forever. They never felt so complete and like a normal family until Kai brought out some lights to the house.

โ€œKai, youโ€™re my savior,โ€ Hugo whispered while opening his bedroom door. He never truly understood how Kai could know exactly anything what they needed every single time.

Smiled, Kai stepped in and started helping out Hugo tidying his clothes. โ€œCome on, boy. We only have 30 minutes before your father wakes up.โ€

โ€œEat your watermelon, Andrew! Itโ€™s summer, you need as much as water you could get. Hugo! There you are! Have you showered? Breakfast now! Quick!โ€ Milo gave ordered to his two sons while busy preparing some sandwiches to be brought as their snacks during the trip.

โ€œNow, you eat your breakfast. Let me prepare those snacks, Miloโ€, Kai swiftly took over Miloโ€™s job and somehow could get Milo sat down at the dining kitchen bar facing his own breakfast.

โ€œThanks, Kai. You need to make a chocolate sandwich as well, Andrew’s allergic toโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNuts and berries. I know it very well, Milo.โ€

โ€œAlso, boys, you need to bring along your water bottle. Kai, could you please take the tumblers I put on the shelfโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThere you are. Hold it closely, boys. Donโ€™t lose it.โ€ Kai already put the tumblers on the bar even before Milo finished his sentence. Andrew couldnโ€™t help to let out a giggle.

โ€œMind him, Kai. Papa always gets anxious every time heโ€™s preparing anything. ANYTHING,โ€ said Andrew still giggling and teasing his father.

โ€œOh, donโ€™t worry, Andrew. Iโ€™ve seen worse at works,โ€ winked Kai. Andrew laughed and only stopped until his father gave him his stern look.

โ€œYou seemed in a very good mood. I hope you finished your summer homework already,โ€ said Milo to his youngest son.

โ€œOf course! Iโ€™ve finished it all, Papa. I canโ€™t wait to spend all of my summer break to the fullest. Mom said sheโ€™s going to bring us to one-day camp where we can learn how to do archery and where we can stay on the tree house! Have you ever stayed on the tree house, Kai?โ€

โ€œNo, Andrew, I havenโ€™t. Sounds fun, eh?โ€ answered Kai to Andrewโ€™s excitement.

โ€œAlso, Mom promised me new boots for the camp! Iโ€™ve been wanting trekking boots for ages! Do you like to go trekking, Kai?โ€ still excited, Andrew asked Kai.

โ€œYou know Iโ€™m more to a beach person, Andrew,โ€ grinned Kai answering Andrew questions.

โ€œAh! Speaking of beach, Mom said, if we still had time, we could go to the local beach where Momโ€™s friend can teach us how to surf! Kai, can you surโ€ฆ?โ€

โ€œSHUT THE HELL UP ANDREW! Iโ€™M SICK OF YOUR VOICE RIGHT NOW!โ€

Andrew stopped abruptly in shocked. Milo and Kai looked bewilderedly at Hugo who just screamed to his brother suddenly. Hugo face turned red. His breath was so fast that the rest of the guys could see his chest went up and down. He clenched his jaw and looked at Andrew whose eyes were teary as he became terrified.

โ€œIโ€™mโ€ฆsorry. Andrewโ€ฆI am so sorry. Iโ€™m doneโ€ฆIโ€ฆIโ€™ll finish my packing right now. Excuse me,โ€ holding his own tears, Hugo ran back to his room and slammed the door leaving his father, his brother and Kai confused.

โ€œHugo, may I come in?โ€ Milo knocked his sonโ€™s bedroom door and opened it slowly. Milo saw Hugo sitting on the edge of his bed. His suitcase and backpack were ready besides the door, definitely been already there quite some time. โ€œI see youโ€™ve done packing as well, buddy,โ€ said Milo.

โ€œYeahโ€ฆ.โ€ Hugo weakly replied to his father. He kept looking down, afraid to look at his father.

โ€œWant to talk about whatโ€™s happened during breakfast?โ€ Milo approached Hugo and kneeled in front of him.

โ€œHowโ€™s Andrew?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™ll be okay. You just need to talk to him. Heโ€™s with Kai now,โ€ said Milo to his son. Putting his hand on Hugoโ€™s knee, he smiled and asked, โ€œSo? Whatโ€™s happened, buddy?โ€

โ€œAre youโ€ฆmad at me?โ€ asked Hugo, braced himself up to look at his fatherโ€™s deep green eyes. Exactly similar eyes with his.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m not. Insteadโ€ฆIโ€™m worried. Is everything okay, Hugo?โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆI donโ€™t know.โ€ Hugo looked away again from those eyes.

โ€œArenโ€™t you excited for the summer break? Seems like you can learn a lot this year. You always love to learn something new, donโ€™t you?โ€ Milo smiled to his son while saying this and moved to sit beside Hugo and hug him around his shoulders.

โ€œYeahโ€ฆno. I donโ€™t know.โ€

โ€œYeah? No? I donโ€™t know either then,โ€ smirked Milo.

โ€œI justโ€ฆI donโ€™t think we should be so excited leaving you aloneโ€ฆand to learn something fromโ€ฆ. you know,โ€ Hugo couldnโ€™t have heart to mention his momโ€™s fiancรฉe name in front of his father. Milo suddenly understood what Hugo felt that morning.

โ€œHey, buddy. Look at me,โ€ Milo pulled Hugoโ€™s head, so his sonโ€™s eyes met his once again. โ€œLet me tell you something.โ€

โ€œLook, what Iโ€™ve done to you and your brother is awful. The worst thing a parent could do to his children. This is the only thing your mother and I could do to give both of you the best experiences and learnings in your childhood.  Not perfect, I know. Itโ€™s hard, I understand. But we still want the best for you and Andrew. Please, buddy, my feeling is not the most important thing right now. You. And your brother. You are the most important and precious thing that we, your mother and I, promised each other to be prioritized. No matter what.โ€

โ€œSo, go enjoy your holiday. Enjoy every moment. Learn everything. As long as itโ€™s great for you and Andrew, I donโ€™t mind you learn it fromโ€ฆ. whoโ€™s that shit name again? Donโ€™t tell your mother I said โ€œshitโ€ word in front of you. Twice now,โ€ grinned Milo.

โ€œTonyโ€ฆโ€ whispered Hugo, still tried not to hurt his father feeling. But hearing his father mocked his momโ€™s fiancรฉe casually eased his feeling a bit.

โ€œYeah. Him. Wellโ€ฆโ€ Milo continued talked to his son, โ€œLook. Youโ€™re afraid to leave me alone, you said? I might be alone, but I wonโ€™t get lonely. Iโ€™ll call you every night…Ha! Whatโ€™s with that face?โ€ teased Milo when he saw his sonโ€™s face turned panicky imagining his father keeps calling him every night during the summer break.

โ€œI promise Iโ€™ll be okay, son. Now will you promise me to enjoy your holiday, take care of your brother, love your mother, and not to get too close with that shitโ€ฆโ€ Milo couldnโ€™t stop himself chuckling. Hugo also let out a small laugh listening to his fatherโ€™s effort to comfort him.

โ€œI promise you, everything you just said,โ€ said Hugo, smiling now. Then he hugged his father saying, โ€œI love you, Papa.โ€

โ€œI love you, too, Hugo. Now, get your suitcase and backpack out. Iโ€™ll call the taxi.โ€ Milo kissed Hugoโ€™s forehead left his sonโ€™s room.

Hugo let out a long sighed. He then took his jacket, grabbed his ukulele and backpack, and dragged out his suitcase. He just wished his summer break went well. And that his text to Gina got replied.

END.

Shoes

He keeps running
run, run, run
Where are you going?

I know him years ago.
Someone introduce me to him.
He was so happy.
They were so happy.
His life was here, never dimmed.
Besides, where to go?

Then he starts walking
Walking turns into running
Leaving her.
Leaving them.
"I bring you along", to me he saying.
Lost, but keeps running.
Why?
Where are we going?

He still keeps running
Only stopping
for crying
What's happening?

I'm wearing thin
thank God he's stopping
without the crying
will he again smiling?

I’m currently writing my first book. Still learning to write, to be honest. This poem is my way to learn how to build a character. So, this is a poem, which was written by one of the character, when he was 12 for his school assignment. He wrote this for his father.
